Bastar Dussehra is a unique cultural phenomenon celebrated in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. Spanning 75 days, it has nothing to do with the Ramayana or the killing of Ravana. Instead, it is dedicated to the local deity, Goddess Danteshwari Devi.

Unique Traditions

  • Pat Jatra: The worship of the first wood log used to build the massive wooden chariot.
  • Rath Yatra: A massive double-decker chariot is pulled by hundreds of tribals (Maria and Muria tribes) through the town.
  • Muria Durbar: Historically a conference of tribal chieftains with the King to discuss welfare, now a meeting with government officials.
