Rameswarar is one of the Dwadasa lingas. Dwadasa means 12. There are 12 lingas around the Sarva Theertha. Stories say that worshipping these 12 lingas after a Snanam (bath) in the Sarva Theertha pond by lighting lamps rescues us from Pithru Shaabaas. Rama is said to have performed his Pithru Karma on the bank of this Sarva Theertha. This linga was worshipped by Shri Rama. This linga is found in the then Karai of the pond.
