Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 9, Verse 21

1 ते तं भुक्त्वा स्वर्गलोकं विशालंक्षीणे पुण्ये मर्त्यलोकं विशन्ति |एवं त्रयीधर्ममनुप्रपन्नागतागतं कामकामा लभन्ते || 21||
2 भावार्थ:

ते तं भुक्त्वा स्वर्गलोकं विशालं
क्षीणे पुण्ये मर्त्यलोकं विशन्ति |
एवं त्रयीधर्ममनुप्रपन्ना
गतागतं कामकामा लभन्ते || 21||

te taṁ bhuktvā swarga-lokaṁ viśhālaṁ
kṣhīṇe puṇye martya-lokaṁ viśhanti
evaṁ trayī-dharmam anuprapannā
gatāgataṁ kāma-kāmā labhante

भावार्थ:

वे उस विशाल स्वर्गलोक को भोगकर पुण्य क्षीण होने पर मृत्यु लोक को प्राप्त होते हैं। इस प्रकार स्वर्ग के साधनरूप तीनों वेदों में कहे हुए सकामकर्म का आश्रय लेने वाले और भोगों की कामना वाले पुरुष बार-बार आवागमन को प्राप्त होते हैं, अर्थात्‌ पुण्य के प्रभाव से स्वर्ग में जाते हैं और पुण्य क्षीण होने पर मृत्युलोक में आते हैं॥21॥

Translation

When they have enjoyed the vast pleasures of heaven, the stock of their merits being exhausted, they return to the earthly plane. Thus, those who follow the Vedic rituals, desiring objects of enjoyment, repeatedly come and go in this world.
