इदं शरीरं कौन्तेय क्षेत्रमित्यभिधीयते |
एतद्यो वेत्ति तं प्राहु: क्षेत्रज्ञ इति तद्विद: || 2||
śhrī-bhagavān uvācha
idaṁ śharīraṁ kaunteya kṣhetram ity abhidhīyate
etad yo vetti taṁ prāhuḥ kṣhetra-jña iti tad-vidaḥ

भावार्थ:
श्री भगवान बोले- हे अर्जुन! यह शरीर ‘क्षेत्र’ (जैसे खेत में बोए हुए बीजों का उनके अनुरूप फल समय पर प्रकट होता है, वैसे ही इसमें बोए हुए कर्मों के संस्कार रूप बीजों का फल समय पर प्रकट होता है, इसलिए इसका नाम ‘क्षेत्र’ ऐसा कहा है) इस नाम से कहा जाता है और इसको जो जानता है, उसको ‘क्षेत्रज्ञ’ इस नाम से उनके तत्व को जानने वाले ज्ञानीजन कहते हैं॥1॥
Translation
The Supreme Divine Lord said: O Arjun, this body is termed as kṣhetra (the field of activities), and the one who knows this body is called kṣhetrajña (the knower of the field) by the sages who discern the truth about both.
