By
Adhi Shankara
Translated by

(Adhi Shankara was affected by the evil chants of Abhinava Guptha, when he was staying in the temple of Thiruchendur (Holy city of sandal) which is in the sea shore. He composed the”Subramany Bhujanga stotra” as well as The “Shanmuga sthothram” and got rid of the evil effects of the chant.)

Naradadhi deva yogi brunda hrud nikethanam,
Barhivaryavahamindu shekareshta nandanam,
Bhakthaloka roga dukha papa sanga banjanam,
Bhavayami sindhu theera vasinam, shadananam. 1

I bow before that six faced one,
Who lives in the shore of the ocean,
Who lives in the hearts of divine ages like Narada,
Who rides on a peacock,
Who is the son of He who collected the crescent,
And who destroys diseases, sorrow and sin,
Of all his world of devotees.

Chandra chandanadhi sheethalanga mathma bhavitham,

I bow before that six faced one,
Who lives in the shore of the ocean,
Who is the killer of Tharaka who is,
Worshipped by Indra and other chief devas,
Who is being anointed by sandal paste and
Is as cool as the moon,
Who can be considered as our soul,
And who is being worshipped by chief of devas,
Like Yakshas, Siddhas and Kinnaras.

Champakabhja malathee sumatdhi malya bhooshitham,
Divya shad kireeda hara kundaldhyalangrutham,

I bow before that six faced one,
Who lives in the shore of the ocean,
Who is being decorated by garlands,
Made out of flowers like champaka and jasmine,
Who is decorated by the six holy crowns,
And six garlands and global ear drops,
And who is being anointed by a mixture,
Of saffron and holy sandal wood paste.
