Surya (also known as Aditya) is the Hindu god of the Sun. He is considered the creator of the universe and the source of all life. He is the supreme soul who brings light and warmth to the world. He is one of the 9 gods in the Navgraha.
Lord Surya can be called the only God in Hindu belief who can be seen and prayed to in daily life. Surya symbolizes the Sun God. Shri Surya Dev is the source of life, light and all energy in the cosmos. There is no alternative to the life-giving rays of the Surya Dev. He is the most powerful and majestic visible Devata. The lord is prayed in the simplest way by folding one’s hands in a namaskar at the time of sunrise.
Surya dev (सूर्यदेव) is the son of Kashyap Rishi (कश्यप ऋषि) and his wife Aditi (अदिती). He has 4 wives and their names are Sangya (संज्ञा) , Suvarna ( सुवर्णा) / Chhaya (छाया) , Usha (उषा) , Pratyusha (प्रत्युषा).
He rides on a chariot driven by Aruna and accompanied by Usha and Pratyusha who have arrows to fight against darkness.
